PNM Prosperity Energy Storage Project

PNM Prosperity Energy Storage Project

Nation's first solar PV storage facility fully integrated into a utility's power grid.
Renewables, such as solar energy and wind, are a great resource for power. But the sun doesn't always shine and the wind doesn't always blow. Without an energy storage component, their intermittent nature make them unreliable resources for a continuous supply of high-quality power.
The PNM Prosperity Energy Storage Project features one of the largest combinations of battery storage and photovoltaic energy, commonly referred to as solar energy, in the nation.
The goal of the Prosperity Project is to develop a way to manage solar energy and other renewable resources so they can be accessed and used when they are most needed.
The Prosperity Project demonstrates that a battery system can be used to effectively address the challenge of intermittancy. It uses high-tech battery systems to both smooth out fluctuations in solar power output caused by clouds and to store excess energy. The excess energy can then be shifted or dispatched when it is most needed, in the evening when the sun isn't shining, for example.
